First: What is Temeph?
Tempeh is a fermented soybean product. It comes in a cake/patty form and is generally easy to cut.
Second: Why would I eat it?
Reducing our meat intake helps to reduce our overall carbon footprint. I can personally say when following some of my Tempeh related recipes, substitution is easy (and may be healthier). Some of those potential benefits include being a high protein source while being low in cholesterol and sodium.
Third: Where do I get it?
When I’ve eat it I’ve always bought it in my local grocery store and it comes in the chilled section near the produce in a vacuum sealed package. (Specifically I get Lightlife brand because that’s really all that is offered at Stop and Shop at approximately 3.99$ per 8 oz.)
Fourth: Where do I start?
The easiest introduction of Tempeh into your diet, in my opinion is through Tempeh Bacon. I usually add it to an egg sandwich or my breakfast salad. I just try it in a pan and eat it like regular bacon.
Another method I use is to marinate the Tempeh patty in whatever I’m feeling (from BBQ sauce to random concoctions) then either fry it or grill it.
It’s versatile and easy to cook with low mess and an earthy, mushroom-y taste.
The buy in is low as it is an affordable product to give a shot next time you’re at the store.
