Plant-Based?

It’s a hot new word thrown around a lot, but what does it mean?
Actually, its pretty simple: the base of whatever is being described is plant products and not animal.

To be more descriptive, it could mean a ‘meat’ source not actually coming from animals but from plants. It could mean leather made from mushrooms and not animal hide. It could even mean make-up made from with laboratory synthesized collagen rather than animal bones.

Ultimately the term is used to divorce a vegan/vegetarian diet from the lifestyle.

The term vegan (no animal products what so ever; not even honey) and vegetarian (still eats eggs, butter, etc.) seem to trigger the idea of animal ethics more than anything.

Plant-based avoids the whole ethical conversation by just telling you what it is, not what it is not.
